PSYCHOTHERAPY

SERVICES

I offer individual psychotherapy to adults facing a variety of issues. I work collaboratively with you, capitalizing on the synergy of my professional training and experience with your knowledge of yourself and your life. I utilize depth-oriented approaches aimed at understanding and promoting insight as well as other techniques targeting symptom relief and skill building. My work is trauma-informed and I draw heavily on the principles of mindfulness, brain/body approaches, and often incorporate elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

CONSULTATION

SERVICES

You don't have to be seeking psychotherapy to benefit from professional help. You may find yourself having questions about a specific issue or situation and wishing you could talk to a mental health professional. Or maybe you feel like things are "okay" but you'd like to live a more fulfilling, meaningful life. I enjoy helping people move forward toward more satisfying, joyful lives.

TYPES OF THINGS I HELP PEOPLE WITH

ANXIETY & STRESS

Anxiety and stress are part of life, but can sometimes become debilitating and affect our health, happiness, and relationships. Together we can explore what previous experiences, thoughts, and beliefs may be underlying your anxiety, and use proven tools to address it. By learning to attend to what's happening in your body as well as your mind, you'll gain powerful insight into managing anxiety. Adding mindfulness techniques can lead to greater peace and contentment.

RELATIONSHIPS

Relationship struggles can hit us at our core and create painful levels of distress. Individual therapy can provide a safe space to explore relationship dynamics and gain clarity about the health of your relationships, whether you're looking at your marriage, dating life, parenting, friendships, work relationships, or any other important relationships. It's often helpful to explore deeply rooted patterns and dynamics, as well as working on practical tools such as improving communication skills.

TRAUMA

Our knowledge of trauma and how it affects our brains, bodies, emotions, and behavior has grown in leaps and bounds in recent years. By understanding the lasting impact trauma has on your nervous system, we can work to improve emotion regulation and create lasting change that has positive ripple affects in all life areas. Through this process, people often find themselves less easily triggered, better able to respond to triggers, experiencing an increased sense of safety, and overall improved functioning.

LGBTQ+ ISSUES

I am passionate about supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community and their family members. I have extensive professional training about issues often facing community members, as well as wide-ranging personal experiences in queer spaces and LGBTQ+ organizations. I have specialty knowledge and experience working with transgender, nonbinary, and gender diverse folx, as well as their family members, including parents of gender-diverse children and teens. I am also a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).

LIFE TRANSITIONS

Life transitions can bring up a lot of emotions, such as excitement or sadness. Transitions often bring fear and anxiety as we shift into the unknown, whether the change is something we sought out (e.g., becoming a parent) or something painful we didn't want to have happen, such as divorce. Regardless of the situation, having professional support can give you effective coping tools, connect you with your strengths, and build resilience so you can not only survive, but flourish in your next stage.

CAREGIVER STRESS

Finding yourself in a caregiver role can produce some real challenges, and sometimes, some surprising emotions. Whether you're caring for aging parents, a spouse in declining health, a disabled child, or anyone else, you're going to need a lot of support. In my thirteen years of working in a long-term care facility, I saw a lot of family members struggle with their caretaker role and I learned a lot about what kind of support is needed. We've all heard that self-care is critical in preventing burnout. Together, we can process your emotions around this role, mobilize resources, and figure out what self-care looks like for you.
